THE TEAMBOOKTU BOOK REVIEW CHALLENGE
1. Introduction
Teambooktu introduces its first BOOK REVIEW CHALLENGE designed to create a direct connection between authors, their books and readers. This season’s challenge will feature two books, with each participating book having its own independent competition. The books are:-
- What Cannot be Taken by Gbe Azenga (genre: literary fiction)
- …And The Night Hissed by Claude Opara (genre: historical thriller)
2. How the Competition Works
You are free to choose either of the participating books you wish to review. You can also review both books and submit reviews. There is no restriction! To participate, all you need to do is :
- Subscribe to Teambooktu. It’s completely free! Click on the subscription box that pops up when you visit the site or scroll down to the comments section at the bottom of any article and subscribe.
- Go to TEAMBOOKSHOP (click on this link or go to the Page)
- Look for the two books in this competition and select one
- Click on the book’s title to purchase it online.
- Read the book and submit your review within the prescribed competition period.
Simple as that!
DO NOT post your review in the comments section of a related Teambooktu article or on our Instagram handle/Facebook page. It will be disqualified.

3. The Prize
What Cannot be Taken– N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) & a Teambooktu Webmaster T-shirt!
… And The Night Hissed– N150,000.00 (One Hundred & Fifty Thousand Naira) & a Teambooktu Webmaster T-shirt!
4. Teambookshop and Book Purchase
Teambookshop functions as a book discovery and access platform, bringing together books of contributors to the Webcitadel in one convenient location for purchase.
5. Participation Criteria
A qualified entrant is a person who:
- has subscribed to Teambooktu (thus a Webcitizen)
- purchased the participating book through Teambookshop or any other platform or bookshop
- or won a complimentary copy of either book in one of our previous competitions (we know who you are!)
- submits a valid review within the prescribed competition period.
6. Campaign Period and Participation
The competition will run over a period of nine weeks. It flags off today 10.10.2026 with submission deadline on 12.12.2026. The two winners will subsequently be announced!
This provides sufficient time for:
- Contestants to purchase and read the books
- Reviews to be prepared and submitted.
7. Review Submission
Contestants will be required to submit an original review of the book they purchased. Competition guidelines are as follows:-
- Minimum word count: 1000 words and maximum word count: 4000 words
- Submission format: Microsoft Word or PDF
- Submission deadline: December 12th 2026
- Eligibility requirements: Teambooktu subscription and Evidence of book purchase/winning a complimentary copy in previous Challenges
- Method of submission: Email review to teambookchallenges@gmail.com
Plagiarism, copied material, AI-assisted/generated submissions and other forms of dishonest participation will be sanctioned. We will do our checks!
The review should demonstrate genuine engagement with the book rather than simply provide a summary of its contents. The competition is intended to reward thoughtful, original and critically engaged reading. We assume that those who will participate are avid book readers and thus this is a given!
8. Judging
Independent judges will be appointed for each book title and they will determine the winning review for each book, subject to the competition eligibility rules stated above..
9. Publication of Winning Reviews
The winning review of each participating book will be published on Teambooktu, along with the first and second runners-up. Subject to the appropriate permissions, Teambooktu may also feature excerpts or selected high-quality entries in subsequent promotional content.
