blood on wall
by CLEMENTINA OWUMI

What!?
What evil!?
What evil has befallen the earth?
such that made love grow shrink, slowly in the heart of men.

Men with whom there are so much similarities
of blood, base and boundaries
yet, seen as first class enemies.

This evil that crept into our land years ago
has eaten up the frame of men’s heart
such that breath means nothing at all,
not even that of a five year old.

Oh!?
What evil so thick like a forest covering our farms?
Chasing owners far away from their lands:
an inheritance from forebears.

This evil bath more with tears from old, young, slim and fat:
the mighties fall flat
before mean men trampled upon this ground called greed:
Men who care less about the people’s need
as long as they enjoy freshness of food, favours and figures
from far away nearby.

Honourable Minister of Accumulators:
causing loss of lives and properties.

This evil is in our guts.
It’s the breeder of buts.
It lives inside our chest hut.
With different shapes like human butt,
bearing blend of awful and pleasantries.

This evil showed up to send off reigning kings,
stole beings and be-longings.
