wine and grapes on a table
by CHRIS ANYOKWU

Heavy
the feet that tread
the husk
kneading mingled chalice of blood and gore,
issue of ineffable pain
dripping from the endless cruse which sanctifies eternal anomie,
the quotidian air that buoys our mortal sail.
But yield not to the folly
of grief,
for this wine we hold
to our parched lips
is all our allotted portion,
blest denizens of ragged time.
