unshackled
'Voices unchained: a journey towards equality' is a poem that must give us pause. written by a young Teambooktu Poetry Challenge longlister Khadija Muhammad

Our ancestors pains, I know, ran deep,
Black hearts longing for the freedom they couldn’t keep.
Caged in childhood, dreams held tight,
Their spirits soared, seeking equal light.

In the depths of history’s pages, their tale unfolds,
Souls shackled and silenced, stories yet untold.
Ancestral pain, etched in every tear and cry,
As they fought for freedom, reaching for the sky.

Through the chains of oppression, they forged ahead,
Their spirits unbroken, their strength widespread.
With resilience as their armor, they stood tall,
Defying the darkness, breaking down each wall.

But still, the echoes of injustice remain,
Segregation’s scars, etched deep in our veins.
Yet, we will rise united, voices loud and clear,
Demanding equality, erasing every fear.
Together we stand, hand in hand we’ll fight,
For a world where love and justice shine bright.

For in unity lies our strength, our liberation,
A future where prejudice finds no foundation.
Let’s rewrite the narrative, with fairness as our guide,
A world where all are valued, with no need to hide.

So let us march forward, with hope as our guide,
In the face of injustice, we will not relent.
For the journey is long, but we’ll never cease,
Until every soul finds freedom, and racism finds its peace
