Magic was never meant to be obedient.
And love, never meant to be silent.
So, who cares if JK (Rowling) never found our stories colourful enough to be painted into Hogwarts history.
I still hear the voices of Camara Laye in my head every time I visit the Bodleian Library.
Telling me stories of the Dark Child.
Telling me, whenever they ask who are you (ayew)
I should never be ashamed I came into Hogwarts with a Ghana-must-go, I am still a Black Star.
And so are you…
So why do we mourn our Existential Neglect, when the Author never breathed life into our characters.
Why should I be silent about my love like my feelings aren’t ‘Emotions Pictures’,
With you, the lead in my blockbuster.
I would play Olu-Jacobs in 14-years-a-slave if my freedom comes with you as Joke Silva.
And if Life is truly a stage,
then I will never drop the mic till i break the fourth-wall,
So the world can see you the way I do, Thandeka.
And I know, I know
That my confessions are hard for you to believe, cause what..
I’m a Nigerian and a Slytherin.
And you, a South African and a Gryffindor.
And I’ve been thinking of bringing my parents to meet your father, the Lion King.
But if they come knocking, will xenophobia allow Mufasa, let us through the door…?
Don’t you see it…
Our world is being ruled by relics.
Yet, only those who dare to read between the lines will see the ghosts of our lives living through the pages.
Magic was never meant to be obedient.
And love, never meant to be silent.
And for you,
I will never drop the mic till the Author of our lives gives our love an audience.
