beach rubbish
*by DEBORAH OMOAREGBA*

I am a tin
A waste bin
In haste to make ill a person
With a taste of my pill
And of truth, your bill will rise.

I am kicked and ripped apart when discarded
My bowel, full of decay, maggotsโ€ฆ
Rubbish!
Yak! You will say.

Ransacked by scavengers
With hidden agenda to uncover the gold there is!
Using a meager stick to create wealth
Irrespective of those ills.

Wealth in a bin?
It is like a sin
Broken plastics, worn out metals, bones of slaughtered animals from the abattoir, newspapers whose news have gone staleโ€ฆ
Rotten rice and beans covered by mucor, the stenchโ€ฆ,you gasp for air!
But in this dirty world;
This tin, this bin,
The finest jewels find a home
Treasuresโ€ฆ

The rolls of dirty written data, give tissue paper
Broken plastics into plates,
Organic waste: manure for sweet green vegetables
Abattoir bones: a way to new home of ceramics and animal feeds
Injurious bottles melted to create new louvers! All sold for a high price.
That is, if you mouldโ€ฆ
It is gold, not decay
Dispose me generously
Never let go totally
A waste you may say
But it is a waste to wealth!
