Seated man with hand on head
"Maybe, Cash and assets desert you, And shame sits stubborn at your doorstep..." James Sonde's uplifting poem makes the KAPP longlist.

Into conjugal pitfalls you may fall,
Known or unknown before the aftermath.
When storm’s rage turns the ear deaf,
And tears stream down until they touch the lips
Yet, suicide is not an option.

Or,
When results betray your effort,
And glitches or hitches mar your scores,
Tempting you to abandon diligence,
While national pains deepen
Still, suicide is not an option.

Maybe,
Cash and assets desert you,
And shame sits stubborn at your doorstep.
When hunger drums on every dawn,
And east or west, no one comes to help
Even then, suicide is not an option.

Remember: life is a phase,
And this too shall pass.
Look it in the face,
And declare:
I am greater than this.
