key in spotlight
by ONARIETTA REMET

Let me tell you a secret.
I am quiet because
whenever I open my mouth
the strangest things happen.

Abstract nouns tumble out.
They clatter on the ground.
Dissolve,
shatter,
they plant themselves like matter.

Whenever I open my mouth now,
my silence grows
like concrete walls
around my soul.
