Here are the movies and series to look out for this June as recommended by the Reeldeal crew. They are back again!

Hi, Webcitizens! We’re back again with movies and series to watch out for in the following month. We hope last month’s watchlist was some help in making choices. While we approach summer blockbuster series, here are five we think will be worth watching in June. Let’s hear your thoughts.

RED CIRCLE (June 6)

Red Circle

A Lagos crime thriller about Fikayo (Folu Storms), a young lady born into a wealthy family, who is expected to continue in the family business but opts for journalism instead, to her parents’ chagrin. Her innate curiosity leads her to uncover a nefarious syndicate around her. The trailer shows many scenes from the movie, but the actors don’t talk much, so we’ll have to wait until June 6th to make sense of it all!

Directed by Akay Mason, starring Folu Storms, Femi Branch, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Lateef Adedimeji, Ruggedman, William Benson, Mr. Macaroni, and Ibrahim Suleiman.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (June 6)

Ballerina

Like Karate Kid: Legend this May, next month brings an action thriller from another successful action franchise, albeit more recent. Stemming from the success of Keanu Reeves’ hit neo-noir action movie John Wick, there have been three other installments as well as spin-offs. Well-known for its action sequences, Ballerina is the most recent spin-off/prequel. The events take place between Chapter 3-Parabellum and Chapter 4 (the most successful film in the franchise) about the beginnings of ballerina-assassin, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), first seen in Chapter 4. No-brainer spoiler alert: it’s another revenge mission!

Directed by Len Wiseman, starring Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves.

ANIMAL FARM (June 9)

Animal Farm

Based on George Orwell’s classic novella and political satire (still relevant today), this animated film was produced and directed by Andy Serkis and Rupert Wyatt with a star-studded cast of Seth Rogen, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Woody Harrelson, and yes…Andy Serkis. I’m sure if you watch it, you’d easily draw parallels with your own government of the day.

SHAKA ILEMBE S2 (June 15)

Shaka Ilembe poster

The long-awaited second season of Shaka iLembe is here! If you haven’t read Movie Buff’s Review of Season 1, then check it out here to understand the excitement. The quality of production, screenplay, and acting was very impressive and from this trailer, it appears nothing has changed. Well, besides young Shaka growing into a man, a fearless, intimidating ruler of the Zulus. The premiere season takes on a necessary journey to appreciate the environment and circumstances around Shaka’s birth and possibly, understand why he became who he was, why his mother Nandi (Nomzamo Mbatha) held an exalted position during his reign, why he engaged in so many wars to unite the rival clans. We’re pumped for this one! Will be showing on Showmax.

Directed by Angus Gibson, Zeno Petersen, Adze Ugah. Returning cast members include Lemogang Tsipa, Nomzamo Mbatha, Wiseman Mncube, Dawn Thandeka King, Khabonina Qubeka, and Mondli Makhoba

28 years later (June 20)

28 years later poster

Anyone else think the skull monument in the poster looks like the old mud minarets of West Africa?

A post-apocalyptic horror film produced and directed by Danny Boyle. The third installment in a film series. Previous movies are 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). A sequel to this movie, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, will be released on January 16, 2026. Both movies were shot back-to-back, and a final film in the trilogy is currently in development.

This sequel continues the story of a highly contagious, aggression-inducing virus that escaped a medical research laboratory and turns its victims into zombie-like creatures. Think World War Z or I Am Legend– though the original predates both. In this movie, we find survivors amid the affected, though living on a small island. If you loved the adrenaline rush from Sinners, then this one’s for you.

Directed by Danny Boyle, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes.
