African dancers
AFRICA UNVEILED- 4th position in Teambooktu Poetry Challenge#1. A powerfully descriptive poem on the Motherland by Aiah Gbakima from Sierra Leone

In the cradle of sunsets, where the savannahs breathe,
A continent adorned with tales, a heritage beneath.
Africa, the motherland, with a rhythm untold,
Whispers of ancient spirits, stories to unfold.

Once draped in vibrant hues, a tapestry divine,
Tribes dancing to the heartbeat of the ancient shrine.
Mountains echoed stories, rivers sang in tune,
A symphony of cultures beneath the crescent moon.

From Timbuktu’s wisdom to the Serengeti’s grace,
Heritage carved in gold, a sacred, timeless space.
Adorned in kente, the threads of history spun,
Ancestral echoes lingered beneath the African sun.

But winds of change blew from a distant shore,
As whispers turned to echoes, traditions to folklore.
Colonial shadows cast, veiling the land in gray,
A dance of cultures lost, as night devoured day.

Western winds carried a language new,
Baptizing tradition in the waters of the blue.
In the corridors of time, echoes grew faint,
As the rhythm of Africa began to paint.

Yet, resilient roots clung to the fertile ground,
The spirit of Ubuntu, a heartbeat profound.
Through struggles and shackles, resilience found a way,
A flame in the darkness, sparking a new day.

Oh, Africa! Once pure, once free,
Your heritage lives on, in the depths of the sea.
For though the tempest may have altered your face,
Your roots run deep, an unyielding embrace.

In the kaleidoscope of cultures, a mosaic grand,
A phoenix rising, reclaiming the land.
From the delta’s embrace to the Sahara’s kiss,
A revival of heritage, a timeless bliss.

Let the rhythm of the djembe resound,
A celebration of heritage, once lost, now found.
In the cradle of sunsets, where the savannahs breathe,
Africa, reclaim your heritage beneath.

    1. Profoundly touching. Africa on the cusp of rediscovering her lost heritage- with the young inquiring and articulate minds in pursuit.

A manilla for your thoughts?
